Baseball As Life [02 Jan 2007|11:43am]

[ mood | melancholy ]

John K. Hutchens, literary and drama critic: "No baseball fan has to explain his mania to any other baseball fan. They are a fraternity. It is less easy, often it is hopeless, to try to explain it to anyone else. You grow technical, and you do not make sense. You grow sentimental, and you are deemed soft in the head. How, the benighted outsider ask you with no little condescension, can you grow sentimental about a cold-blooded professional sport?"

I would say we are legion.

Why you love the yankees: my grandma told me a story when i was younger about how she became a yankee fan and from that point on i have always loved the yankees and i always will.
Favorite Player: Derek Jeter is my favorite because my position is short stop as well. Other then that I love Bernie Williams
Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: The speeches given by Lou and Mickey. And most recent, Jeter getting the start in the all-star game.
And add anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself: I am a member of a fraternity on my campus and my nick name comes from my love of jeter, baseball and the yankees. if you want to know anything else or just chat my aim sn is lilnybaby84

Why you love the yankees: my family is from new york, and my dad has been a fan his whole life. Since I was a baby they've had me in yankees clothes haha and ive just grown up knowing all of the players, and watching all of the games. How can you NOT love them!?
Favorite Player: every yankee is my favorite =) but i LOVE derek jeter. he's been like my idol since he started
Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: theres plenty...aaron boone's homerun in the bottom of the 12th game 7 of the alcs was prettty far up there though.
And add anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself. I hate living here in maryland because we dont get every yankees game on tv. so i def. want to move. I also dont like when people think they know everything about baseball and they try to show off and its wrong. But, i think this is a great community and im excited to be in it now you guys seem really cool! talk to you soon

also...i was looking for a layout. i know you might be getting alot of requests, so if you cant its okay. but if you leave me a comment i can tell you what i need if you want to do it. thanks so much!

[ mood | irritated ]

So, I just got back from a Red Sox vs Tampa Bay game. I live in Florida. I have never in my life seen so many retarded band wagon fans in my entire life! I seriously got so irritated that I had to leave. They are so obnoxious and rude its unbelievable!

Just took me a while to do this [17 Apr 2005|09:02am]

Name(first only): Joe
Age: (optional): 17
Why you love the yankees: Grew up in Queens and the first game I went to was a Yankees game back in 96, loved 'em ever since
Favorite Player: Bernie Williams (met him twice)
Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: Jeter's lead off homer in the 2000 World Series

(Out of the parks)

Hmmm... I Never Did One Of These Before... [07 Apr 2005|10:50am]

Name(first only): Potch

Age: (optional): 34

Why you love the Yankees: My dad. He was a Yankee fan while growing up, and something about the game and the team just struck me as a kid. He and my cousin Frankie took me to my first game when I was 7 back in September, 1978, a doubleheader against the Tigers. I saw Guidry, Munson, Jackson, Gossage, Piniella, Randolph, Nettles. Been obsessed with them ever since.

Favorite Player: Jeter, Matsui, Mussina, Rivera, Posada, Bernie, Girardi, Cone, O'Neill, Tino, Sojo, El Duque, Mattingly, Randolph, Guidry, John, Gossage, Righetti, Stanley, Seaver (I know, a non-Yankee), Bench, Ryan, Piniella, Munson, Mantle, DiMaggio, Ruth, Gehrig, Berra, Rizzuto, Ford, Chesbro, Lazzeri, Hoyt, Dickey.

Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: Winning the 1996 World Series. After 18 years of waiting, THAT was freakin' SWEET. Boone's homer was pretty good... The ENTIRE 1998 season... Hell, even Brosius and Tino's homers in the 2001 series...

And add anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself: I have become a more level headed fan as I have gotten older. I refuse to boo ANY Yankee, no matter how bad they have done lately. I despise bandwagon jumpers. The number of Red Sox caps I see, SUDDENLY, sickens me. (Similar to the overabundance of Yankee caps about 5-7 years ago) I have no problem giving a true, long suffering Sox fan their due, they earned it, but I'll be DAMNED if I'll give an inch to a bandwagon jumper on ANYTHING. I consider myself a knowledgeable, true blue Yankee fan who bleeds pinstripes. I have a Yankee tattoo and my entire home office is done in Yankee memorabilia, including Yankee curtains my mom made for me a few years ago. I also have the coolest wife in the world for not only accepting this passion for the Yankees, but for getting caught up in it. Hell, she told me to take a leave of absence from my job to try to get on the Ultimate Road Trip thing on the YES network... Gotta love her!

Name(first only): Heidi
Age: (optional): 21 (i'll be 22 on tuesday!)
Why you love the yankees: i don't really know, i've loved them since 8th grade in middle school when i first got into baseball. they were in world series. my brother was rooting for them so i did too. it just kind of stuck. now they're the greatest team in baseball why wouldn't i love them
Favorite Player: mike mussina/hideki matsui/derek jeter (what you expected me to pick just one?!)
Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: aaron boones 12th inning homer, derek jeters homer bottom of the ninth the other day, game 3 of last years alcs when we killed the sox
And add anything else you'd like to tell us about yourself.: i go to school at NU in Boston. I despise red socks fans because they suck and are arrogant bizatches. My opinion about george steinbrenner, i don't understand why everyone thinks it's so bad. if you have a thousand dollars you're not going to buy the $15 heels at target no, you're going to spend $400 on manolos. he has the bling, he can stack his team. why not? Oh yeah, and i'm from northern vermont, interning in dc at the current moment. Go Yankees. :)

so how 'bout them yanks? ;)

A New Yankee Community! [24 Feb 2005|01:54pm]

Hi all!

For some time I have been slowly putting together a LJ Community for articles about the Yankees. Not just small quick things like "I really love Jeter!", but actual articles.

I hope some of you check it out and decide to join up.

For right now, I am the only person with posting ability, but that could eventually change if enough people have interest in writing articles.

I still will be an daily reader/occasional poster here, and I hope some of you join me over at nyyankeesreport! Also, it is a member of SportsBlog.org

Hope to see you there!

Tino [21 Feb 2005|08:20pm]

[ mood | excited ]

I was just checking out the official Yankees website and isn't great to see Tino back? I know everyone has already said stuff like this, but on game day its gonna be so refreshing to see Tino back at first base with the Yankees. He's more-less back at home now.

I'm just a major Tino fan, and boy did it make my year when I saw he was back when they announced it.

BTW, I'm going to a pre-season game in Tampa on St. Patrick's Day. Is anyone else here from FLA and going?

Name(first only): Mike, AKA Fender
Age: (optional): 21
Why you love the Yankees: I grew up loving Donnie Baseball. My first Yankee game EVER, I saw him hit a double and a triple against the Mariners, back in 1988. I remember jumping up and down in joy with my old man after winning the 1996 World Series, and again in 1998, 1999, and 2000 (Although we kept it light that last year, because my mom is a Mets fan.) Fuck the Diamondbacks, fuck the Marlins, and FUCK THE RED SUX.
Favorite Player: Players. Donnie Baseball, Jeter, Girardi, Tino, Paulie, Bernie, and the rest of the gang. Anybody who has EVER been a Yankee is ok in my book.
Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: I was at the best game in the 1998 regular season. July 2nd. Yankees were down 8-5 against the Phillies in the 9th innning. Two outs. Right after the 2nd out is recorded, I feel something enter the stadium. Kind of a ghostly presence, if you will. Next thing I know, Jeter smacks a double. Paulie walks. Tino hits a 3-RUN HOMER OUT TO RIGHT FIELD!!! CROWD GOES NUTS!!!!!!!!!! Fast forward to the 11th inning: Ricky Ledee hits the game winning single. I've never loved the Yankees more.
Anything else: I'm a Junior (Senior academically) at The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. I'm a Communications major with a concentration in Psych, hoping to break into the magazine industry.. I play bass guitar (A Fender J-Bass and a Squier MB-5), and I drive a red 1999 Ford Mustang.

Name(first only): Caiti
Age: (optional): almost 18
Why you love the yankees: Because my dad's from NY. Because they're the first team I ever followed. Because my best friend, who introduced me to baseball, is the most die-hard fan you'll ever meet.
Favorite Player: Players. Jorge Posada, Mike Mussina, Mariano Rivera, Andy Pettitte.
Favorite moment in Yankee/sports history: Gotta be ALCS Game 7, 2003. Po jumping and yelling on second base. Boonie - "and Boone hits it to deep left! That shot could send the Yankees to the World Series! Boone, a hero in Game 7!" Bret Boone standing there, just standing there, staring at his baby brother. Mo on the mound. Moose laughing and squirting champagne. Torre.
Anything else: Um, I'm a college sophomore. My majors are history (modern British & Russian history) and music; my minor is Russian language. I really shouldn't watch as many baseball games as I do, because of school, but I do anyway.
